পশ্চিম মেদিনীপুর জেলার দাসপুর থানার অধীনে সোনাখালি গ্রাম পঞ্চায়েত। এই পঞ্চায়েত এলাকায় কোনাখালী বাজারের কাছে অতি প্রাচীন একটি শিব মন্দির আছে। পশ্চিমমুখি আটচালা এই শিব মন্দিরটি ১৭৭২ / ৭৩ সালে তৈরি হয়েছিল।
একসময় পোড়ামাটির ফলকে যে সুন্দর আঙ্গিকে মন্দিরটি কারুকার্যময় হয়ে উঠেছিল , বর্তমানে রং করার ফলে তার গরিমা অনেকটাই নষ্ট হয়েছে। বিশেষত পোড়ামাটি ফলক গুলি সোনালী রঙের আস্তরণ দিয়ে মুড়ে ফেলা হয়েছে।
মন্দিরের কারুকার্য গুলি দেখলে অনুমান করা যায়, টেরাকোটা ভাস্কর্যে কি অপরূপ নিদর্শন এখানে ছিল। খোদিত মূর্তি গুলির মধ্যে কৃষ্ণ লীলার বিভিন্ন দৃশ্য, নরনারীর মিথুন সম্বলিত ফলক এখনও দেখতে পাওয়া যায়।
মন্দিরের প্রতিষ্ঠা লিপি থেকে দেখা যায় ১৬৯৫ শকাব্দ / সন ১১৭৯ সালে সিঙ্গিবান্ধা গ্রামের কৃপারাম সেন মন্দিরটি নির্মাণ করে দেন।
Sonakhali Gram Panchayat is under Daspur Thana of Paschim Medinipur district. There is a very old Shiva temple near Konakhali Bazar in this panchayat area. This west-facing Atchala Shiva temple was built in 1772 / 73.
The temple, which was once beautifully crafted with terracotta panels, has now lost much of its glory due to painting. In particular, the terracotta panels have been covered with a golden coating.
Looking at the temple's artwork, one can guess what wonderful terracotta sculptures were here. Among the carved statues, various scenes of Krishna's play, and tablets with male and female twins can still be seen.
The foundation inscription of the temple shows that Kriparam Sen of Singibandha village built the temple in 1695 Shakabda / 1179 bangabda
