This city is built on the north bank of the Kapisa or Kangsabati river. Crossing the river to the south and entering the city, the Jagannath temple with its straight structure stands tall in the sky. At first glance, it seems that the soul of this city, the guardian of the city, is Jagannath Dev.<br \/>However, the temple we see now is actually the second temple of Jagannath. It was built in the very middle of the 19th century.<br \/>The original temple was built much earlier. From the 12th to the middle of the 16th century AD, almost the entire territory of Medinipur was under the rule of the Kalinga kings.<br \/>It must have been built by a Ganga dynasty prince of Odisha at that time. The temple was located on the southern edge of the city, on the Odisha Trunk Road, on the banks of the Kangsavati River. The Sikh Guru Nanak Dev also visited this temple during his pilgrimage to Puri. A &#8220;Nanak Sangat&#8221; was built here in his sacred memory. The &#8220;Sangat Bazar&#8221; of the district town still carries the memory of Nanak Dev.<br \/>In the first half of the 19th century, there were two terrible floods in the Kangsabati River. There was no trace of anything.<br \/>To collect the story of the rescue of the washed away idol of Jagannath or the construction of a new temple for him, we have to take the help of folklore and temple inscriptions. What is known is that at that time, Janmenjoy Mallick was a famous landlord in the city. After a week of disaster, on the afternoon of the eighth day. The council landlord came to the river bank. It can also be called a trip, and again, he saw the damage with his own eyes.
