establishment of British rule, Chandrakona was successively ruled by the Malla dynasty, the Ketu dynasty, the Bhan dynasty, and finally the Burdwan dynasty. Some believe that the name Chandrakona is derived from the name of Chandraketu, the founder of the Ketu dynasty.<br \/>On the other hand, the last king of the Bhavana dynasty was Mitrasena. A village named Mitrasenpur was named after him. When Chandrakona was formed as a municipality by the British in 1828, Mitrasenpur was included in a ward.<br \/>Chandrakona is the city of &#8216;fifty bazaars and fifty alleys&#8217;.<br \/>This city was once particularly prosperous in the production of cotton, jute, and silk textiles. Various cottage industries also flourished. Due to the development of all these industries, European merchants benefited as well many local families also became wealthy in this way.<br \/>Among these families, the Tambulis, the gold merchants and the Tantubais were prominent. Many temples in Chandrakona city were built by these three communities.<br \/>Since ancient times, the Mitrasenpur area has been known as a prosperous belt or mahalla. The Sharak (Buddhist worshippers) community lives in the Bamunpara area of this belt. A survey has shown that, the Sharak community lives not only in the Mitrasenpur area, but also in 10 other areas of the Chandrakona municipality.<br \/>However, the temple discussed in this journal is located in the Mitrasenpur area. The foundation plaque of the temple states, the temple was built in 1702 Saka, 1187 Bengali or 1780 AD. The founder was one Shri Nimai Charan Das Dutta.<br \/>There is also a renovation plaque on the wall. It shows that in the year 1821, 1306 of the Bengali calendar or 1899, a certain Shri Kalachand Kar renovated the temple.<br \/>Shortly after the renovation work, the idol of the temple was stolen. Since then, the temple has been abandoned without an idol.<br \/>An idol of Goddess Lakshmi is kept in the residence of the Karbansha family and is worshipped. Kalachand Kar&#8217;s two grandsons, Shri Jibankrishna Kar and Shri Nimai Charan Kar, continue as sevaits.<br \/>The stele is cut, the pedestal is about three feet high. On it, the east-facing brick temple is in the style of Dalan temple.<br \/>The square temple has two parts\u2014the three-door atrium with arches in the front. The ceiling is made with the help of a drawn arch. The one-door sanctum sanctorum with arches in the back. Its ceiling is also made with arches.<br \/>The spire or top section, built on the front of the temple, is very handsome. The two leaping lion statues make it even more magnificent. The spire in the middle is decorated with a benki, amalaka, kalas, and Vishnu chakra.<br \/>The temple is decorated with a combination of terracotta and pankha. A parallel row below the cornice and two vertical rows on the two corners have been added with small plaques.<br \/>The motifs of the plaques include Radha Krishna, Vishnu&#8217;s ten avatars, Ramachandra and sita Devi&#8217;s ascension to the throne, a scene of chanting with musical instruments, etc.<br \/>There is a work of pankha on the front wall. On the heads of the three doorways, in three large widths, there is a geometric design of pankha. Some statues have also been carved in this temple. 1. Above the cornice, in the central part of the alsa, is a large Krishna statue standing in a triangular posture. 2. On either side of the top or peak, are two lion statues with splayed bodies . 3. Two gatekeeper statues on either side of the sanctum sanctorum.<br \/>The temple has been abandoned for a long time. Even though it is a belated renovation, the entire structure is showing signs of wear and tear.
